I'm guess I'm really late on this best of stuff, but screw it, better late than never, right?
Anyway, I've been getting way old over the past several years and finding myself more and more disinterested in new music. I took a beat at the end of last year and realized that if I continued on this trajectory, I'd be like those sad late 30s dudes who play the same old records over and over again, goes to a concert once every three years, and gets really tired of standing the whole time and leaves before the encore. That's probably gonna happen someday no matter what I do, but I'm not there yet and I should at least try to enjoy music while I can.
So, for a large part of 2009 I tried to re-dedicate myself to getting into newer stuff. It wasn't a huge success (I'm really not that into a lot of the bigger indie bands anymore - too electronic / noisey for me), but I did get into enough new stuff to make a mix and post it to this blog.
What we've got here is a .zip file with 24 .mp3s (some .m4as - sorry dudes!) that runs almost exactly one hour long. Not all the music is from 2009 releases, but it was all new to me. I'd say about 75% of these songs were released in 2009.
There's a ton of 60s girl group stuff, some folky stuff (including some Connie Converse tracks released by Dan Dzula!), some indie stuff, and 6 one-minute songs from my favorite band of the year The Ovens. Here's a link to a read-able playlist :

And here's a link to the actual music :
Sam's Favorite Music of 2009 - MUSIC (95.7 MBs)
Hopefully, this works for your iTunes or whatever you're using. I changed the name of the .mp3s so they've got a # at the front that tells you what order to put the junk in. It should just work if you import them right into a playlist. I spent some time on ordering this right, so double check with the text list to make sure it comes in correctly.
Enjoy!
Sam
