New Bears at The Bronx Zoo

Yo. The Bronx Zoo just got four young Grizzly and Brown bears (they're not the same, the major difference is that Brown Bears are a population of bears in Alaska that mostly feeds off of salmon and, therefore, are much bigger than Grizzlies). I need to go see them ASAP.

Lots of people seem to think that zoos are evil and that they go into the wild and shoot animals with tranquilizer guns and take them away. And this may be the case for some of the animals, but I think most of these animals taken in by zoos because they would otherwise be killed by the harsh realities of the wild or by local authorities. Some are abandoned by their mothers and others would be killed because they misbehaved near humans or something like that. Not that I think that bears and other animals should be punished for going near humans who have taken over their environment, but if the local government is going to kill them, I don't blame an organization like the Wildlife Conservation Society to volunteer to take the animals to a zoo where everyday people can learn about them. And besides, I believe most zoos, like the Bronx Zoo, which is run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, are non-profit organizations. So they have no incentive to be evil (like stealing baby African Elephants from the wild in order to increase ticket sales), their goal is teaching and conserving wildlife. And sometimes that means making sacrifices to educate people about the wild and ways that us humans can conserve the environment animals live in. When I was a member of the Wildlife Conservation Society and went to the NYC zoos and aquariums like every other day, I gained a deep respect for what this organization does.

Here are the bears playing around in the Bronx. Peace.
